Here are some of the frequent questions that are asked:
Q: Do I need to be fit to start?
A: Not at all. This is the most common myth we hear! You attend the class to get fit, not because you already are. Boxercise is self-paced, meaning you hit the pads as hard or as lightly as you can manage. We have members of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels.
Q: I’ve never boxed before. Is that okay?
A: Absolutely. Most of our members had never put on a pair of gloves before their first class. We teach you the basics—stance, guard, and punches—right at the start. You will pick it up faster than you think!
Q: Is there any physical contact? Will I get hit?
A: No. Boxercise is a non-contact fitness class. You will be hitting focus pads and punch bags, but you will not be hitting another person, and nobody will be hitting you. It is all the stress relief of boxing with none of the bruises.
Q: What equipment do I need to bring?
A: Just yourself and a water bottle! We provide all the boxing gloves and focus pads. If you decide to attend regularly, we recommend buying your own pair of hand wraps (available for purchase in our shop) for hygiene and wrist support.
Q: I’m uncoordinated / I have two left feet. Can I still do it?
A: Yes! Boxercise is actually great for improving coordination. The combinations we use are simple to learn, and our instructors are always there to help you if you get mixed up. We promise nobody is watching or judging you; everyone is too focused on their own workout.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear standard gym gear that you feel comfortable moving in (leggings, shorts, t-shirt). Some of the venues require no outside shoes, but you can wear boxing boots if you have them, if not just socks.
Q: How early should I arrive?
A: For your first session, please arrive 10–15 minutes early. This gives us time to introduce you to the instructor, show you around, and help you get your gloves or hand wraps sorted before the warm-up begins.
Q: What kind of workout is it?
A: It is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout. It combines aerobic (cardio) exercise with anaerobic (muscle conditioning) exercise. You will be punching pads, doing bodyweight exercises (like squats or shuttle runs), and keeping your heart rate up.
Q: Is Boxercise good for weight loss?
A: Yes, it is one of the most effective fat-burning workouts available. Because it uses the whole body and keeps you moving constantly, a single class can burn significantly more calories than a standard hour at the gym.
Q: Can I do this if I have an injury?
A: It depends on the injury. Please speak to the instructor before the class starts. Boxercise can often be adapted—for example, if you have a bad knee, we can swap out high-impact jumps for low-impact alternatives. However, if you have severe back or wrist issues, we recommend consulting your doctor first.
Q: Is there an age limit?
A: Our classes are open to anyone over the age of 5 years +.
Q: Do I need to book in advance?
A: Yes, spaces are limited to ensure everyone has enough room and equipment. You can book your spot via GymCatch or by calling us on 07738 689839.
